Step-by-step guide to Character Creation

Step 1

Once you've signed up for the campaign, you will be provided with two links:

D&D Beyond Campaign Link

Step 2

Head over to the Discord server and find the #character-creation channel in the THE DRIFT category. (Links provided upon request.)

Step 3

Roll a set of ability scores in the #character-creation channel by typing: !rollstats

Step 4

Discuss your character ideas with me (the DM), and I will help guide the back story to have it mesh well with the setting and ongoing narrative.

Step 5

Follow the D&D Beyond Campaign link you are provided and start building your character. Feel free to ask any questions about this process or the setting on the Discord server along the way.

Here are the Character Creation rules for this campaign:

All characters start at level 1 with standard starting gear and gold.
Leveling will be Milestone based (though there are no concrete milestone points — leveling will occur when your character seems to have reached a suitable point based on their activities in the game (particularly things that justify the new abilities gained from that class level).
All official races and classes on D&D Beyond are allowed. Refer to the Races page on this site for info about how each particular race fits into the setting. (I'd love to have each race ultimately represented by a player in the campaign, so please check Discord for which ones are yet unclaimed. That said, if you really want to play an already claimed race, you can certainly do so.)
Please fill out all the details on your sheet, including physical characteristics, alignment, and traits. The more attention you give to this area, the more rewarding your experience will be.
Please only use official D&D Beyond art for your portrait, or an image you know is legal for you to use, to avoid risk of copyright issues. Or, I'm happy to try and generate AI art (like that used throughout this site) for your character if you wish, but be warned that results may vary (and you are of course welcome to choose not to use it).

Step 6

Contact me on Discord to flesh out any details and finalize your character.

You'll be assigned your own personal channel on Discord. This channel will be public unless you request for it to be made private, or I choose to do so (usually for story reasons — for example, your character may be trying to secretly gain power using whatever means necessary, a thing that shouldn't necessarily be advertised to other players whose characters yours may cross paths with). There will also be other channels I post a general narrative in, as well as handouts, maps, and so on, a channel for out-of-character general discussion, etc.

Once your character is created and approved, we will start your personal narrative on Discord!

At 1st level, your character will likely not have made much of a mark in the world (though there will be exceptions), but as you grow in power you will be introduced to greater stages, perhaps getting your own ship and crew, or a high seat in an empire — and even possibly going beyond that scope as you push toward the maximum level of 20, at which point you very well may be fighting against the gods and cosmic forces themselves... hell, you may ultimately become a part of the setting's pantheon, immortalizing your character in Driftspace's history. Characters who make sufficient enough of a splash in the story will find a page on this site dedicated to their tale and deeds (or misdeeds, as the case may be).
